A Peloton referral code is a special code that allows you to receive a discount on accessories purchased with your hardware.

If you know someone with a Peloton, you can ask them for their referral code to get a discount on accessories with your purchase.

Asking a friend is probably the best way to get a referral code and the one I recommend the most!

They will usually be more than happy to provide you with their code.

If you buy a Peloton Bike, Bike+, or Tread using your friend's referral code, you will receive up to $100 towards accessories purchased with the hardware.

Your friend will receive $100 off their next apparel purchase for referring you.

The referral code is located in the account settings of your friend's Peloton account, and they can send it to you directly.

Here is some information from Peloton on who is eligible to give out a referral code:

• Any active Peloton Bike or Tread Members can participate in this program. “Active” status is determined by Peloton and will be indicated by a referral code tab shown in the user’s web profile. This includes Bike or Tread owners with active Memberships, other Members in their households, and studio users. App users are not eligible for this referral program at this time.
• Peloton employees are not eligible to participate in this Referral Program.
• Referral credits may only be used for purchases on  https://apparel.onepeloton.com and are not valid for any additional purchases of Hardware that you buy for yourself.

Search for a Peloton referral code online

If you’re looking for a Peloton referral code to get a discount on a Bike or Tread, the internet is your best friend.

A simple Google search will turn up several options. Be sure to read customer reviews of any online retailers offering a discount code before purchasing.

You can also search on sites like Reddit or Quora, which have helpful user communities often willing to share their Peloton referral code.

Check official Peloton social media accounts.

One of the best places to find a Peloton referral code is on Peloton’s official social media accounts. They sometimes post exclusive offers and discounts to their followers.

Keep an eye on their Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter accounts to get access to these special deals.

You can also get a Peloton military discount if you follow their social media accounts and keep updated with their offers.

You can use your Peloton referral code or any other special code you find on their social media accounts when buying a Peloton Bike or Tread.

Ask in relevant online forums.

One of the best ways to find a Peloton referral code is to join online fitness, cycling, and Peloton forums. By joining these forums, you can ask experienced users of Peloton products for a referral code and other tips on saving money when purchasing Peloton equipment.

The biggest group is the Official Peloton Member Facebook group, but there are also many other smaller Facebook Peloton groups.

I believe the Official Peloton Member page may have cracked down on giving out referral codes online, but the smaller groups are not moderated by Peloton, and it will be easy to find a code there.

Go onto Facebook if you have access and search for Peloton groups, and you will find many.

Use the code to get a discount on accessories purchased with a Peloton Bike or Tread.

Using a Peloton referral code is an easy way to save money on your Peloton Bike or Tread.

When you purchase either product, you can use the code at checkout to get a discount for accessories.

Once you have the code, you can easily enter it at the checkout page when ordering your Peloton Bike or Tread.

You can also look into special discounts such as the Peloton military discount.

You may need to contact customer service or visit one of the Peloton showrooms for the military discount.

When using a Peloton referral code, be sure to read through the terms and conditions associated with it.

Terms of using a Peloton Referral Code

A Peloton user can give out six referral codes a year.

You can do this if you are an app user, only an all-access user.

The referral code can be used to buy accessories bought at the same time as the Bike or Tread and must be entered at checkout.

It must be used simultaneously as the purchase of the Bike or Tread. It cannot be applied retroactively.

If you purchase hardware at a showroom with a referral code, you can let an employee know, and they will apply it for you at the time of purchase. This is how I did it in 2017 when I bought my first bike!

If you have shared a referral code, you will get an email with your $100 apparel discount voucher within a few days. The voucher is good for 6 months.

The answer is yes; you can pair AirPods to the Peloton Bike or Tread. You can join the AirPods Pro to the Peloton as well.

While it might not seem as intuitive as using your iPhone, they are Bluetooth devices, and Peloton has Bluetooth built-in.

Read on for information on how to connect AirPods to Peloton.

I love my Peloton; if you look around my site a bit, you will see my obsession.

The built-in speaker on the Peloton tablet is okay, but the music isn't loud enough for me. One of the best parts of riding a stationary bike for me is the music and instructor. I like it loud.

I tried using various Bluetooth speakers, including an Amazon Echo and other brands, and the Echo works excellently as a speaker for the Peloton, but there are times (most of the time) I don't want my kids to hear the ride.

Plus, it still was less loud than having earbuds in your ear. I also tried using my husband's insane sound system, but it had a Bluetooth lag due to being across the room.

I tried other headphones, including the ones that Peloton sells themselves. But they were wired, and wires can be constraining on the bike. I tried my husband's Bluetooth headphones, and they were okay, too, but I wouldn't say I liked sharing.

Finally, I received AirPods for my birthday a couple of years ago, and it was a game-changer. They work with the Peloton, and they are loud.

The best part for me is that the minimal design means no wires, nothing around my neck, and none of the issues I found annoying with other earbuds and headphones.

 Introduction to Airpods

AirPods are the perfect accessory for any music or audio enthusiast. Whether you're looking to upgrade your workout experience with a top-of-the-line pair of headphones or want something that fits your lifestyle, AirPods has got you covered.

Connecting them to Peloton is simple and straightforward – all it takes is a few taps on your device's screen! Plus, since they use Bluetooth technology to connect, you won't need any extra cables or adapters; hold your phone near the Peloton console and wait for the connection to be established.

Once connected, you can stream high-quality audio directly from your Peloton while enjoying an immersive listening experience - without ever having to worry about tangled cords!

Connecting Airpods to Peloton Bike or Tread

AirPods revolutionized how we listen to music, making it convenient with their wireless design. As technology continues to move forward and become more intertwined with our daily lives, connecting your AirPods to your Peloton has become a breeze.

Using Bluetooth technology, you can easily connect your AirPods to your Peloton bike in just a few simple steps.

The first step is to ensure that both of your devices are powered on and within range of each other. 

Open your AirPods and press the pairing button on the back of them. 

 Then open Bluetooth on the Peloton bike. It's under settings in the top right corner of the bike screen console, and select "Bluetooth Devices" from the menu.

Once you have selected this option, find "AirPods" in the list of available devices and click on it. 

Your AirPods will then be connected to the console and ready for use!

After this, you should be all set!

Once you pair them the first time, they should appear as an available device in the Peloton Bluetooth settings.

But I will admit, technology only sometimes works so smoothly, and once in a while, I have had issues with them connecting easily.

This is not unique to the AirPods, I have had issues with the Peloton heart rate monitor, and I have also had the same problems with my other Bluetooth speakers.

This is more of a Bike thing than an issue with the AirPods, but I will share some of my troubleshooting tips.

Using these tips, I am always able to get back going quickly.

Troubleshooting when AirPods won't connect to the Peloton

The first step is refreshing the Bluetooth on the Peloton.

If this does nothing, I turn the Bluetooth on and off.

Still nothing? Sometimes I have to reboot the bike. Especially if there has recently been an update.

If somebody is nearby with AirPods and they open their previously paired AirPods, it can kick yours off.

Sometimes I make the bike forget my husband's AirPods if I need more help connecting (sorry, husband!).

He can always pair them again later.

You can also forget your AirPods on the bike and pair them again from scratch. If you see them there, this is an option, but they just won't connect.

Another option is to ensure the Bluetooth is not defaulting and connecting to another speaker.

Make sure to hit disconnect on that device name in the Peloton Bluetooth settings.

Sometimes I also have found that disconnecting my AirPods from my phone helps. Especially if I have my phone right there next to the bike.

Another issue I have encountered with my AirPods is that they sometimes connect, but the volume is low. I am still trying to understand why this happens. 

Usually, the troubleshooting tips above will solve the volume issue as well.

Note that the AirPods volume during a ride is controlled by the Peloton's volume control on the side of the bike touch screen.

Other headphone options for Peloton

If you're looking for a way to listen to your favorite music while riding on the Peloton, AirPods are an excellent choice. They provide high-quality sound that will make your ride more enjoyable. 

To connect them, hold down the button on the back of the case until it begins flashing white, then select "AirPods" from your Bluetooth device list in settings.

But there are other options for headphones, too – wired or wireless, depending on what suits you best. Wired headphones offer better sound quality but can be cumbersome if you're cycling hard.

Wireless headphones provide convenience, comfort, and noise isolation, so you won't disturb anyone nearby. Some brands even have models specifically designed for sports activities like running or biking - perfect for use with Peloton!

No matter which option, having a good pair of headphones makes any exercise session much more enjoyable.

Conclusion

You can connect AirPods and AirPods Pro to the Peloton cycle or Tread; for me, it is my favorite way to ride.

I love the loud volume and the fact that the bike sound is not bothering anyone else.

This is especially handy while my kids are playing nearby, and the rides can be explicit.

While there can be some minor issues connecting with Bluetooth on the bike, these issues are not unique to AirPods and are easy to solve with the troubleshooting tips above.

The AirPods hold up fine, are not obtrusive during a ride, and sweat doesn't affect them.

I have seen a few people post questions asking about their older Peloton Heart Rate Monitor not working.

When I bought my Peloton bike I got an accessories package with it which included a bike mat, shoes, heart rate monitor, weights, and headphones.

I do think the package was worth it because I got a special on it at the time (hint, this special comes around black Friday and the holidays).

One piece of the package - the heart rate monitor, is something I previously used with the bike all the time.

This post was originally written a few years ago, so I am now updating this post for 2023 because Peloton came out with a new Heart Rate Band in 2022.

Peloton new Heart Rate Band

In 2022 Peloton introduced a new heart rate band that is wearable on your arm, and has optical sensors for measuring heart rate.

The new heart rate band has a rechargeable battery with 10 hours of workout time.

The older heart rate chest strap monitor had a replaceable battery, and it truly was a pain to replace it.

You can get this heart rate band in a size small or large.

The new Peloton heart rate band is considered better than the old Peloton chest heart rate monitor in several other ways:

1. Comfort: The new heart rate band is designed to fit comfortably on the arm, while the chest strap monitor can sometimes feel restrictive or uncomfortable during intense workouts.
2. Accuracy: The arm band uses optical sensors to measure heart rate, which is considered to be more accurate than the chest band's electrocardiogram (ECG) sensors.
3. Convenience: The arm monitor doesn't require a separate chest strap, which makes it more convenient and easier to use than the chest band.
4. Compatibility: The arm monitor is compatible with a wider range of Peloton devices, including the Bike, Bike+, Tread, and Tread+, Guide, while the chest strap is only compatible with select devices.

Overall, the new Peloton heart rate arm monitor offers improved comfort, accuracy, convenience, and compatibility compared to the old Peloton chest strap heart rate monitor.

To pair the Peloton heart rate monitor to the Bike or Tread, follow these steps:

1. Turn on the monitor: Press and hold the button on the monitor until the LED light flashes.
2. Go to the settings menu: On the Bike or Tread, navigate to the settings menu and select "Heart Rate Monitor."
3. Put the monitor in pairing mode: On the settings menu, select "Pair New Device" and follow the prompts to put the monitor in pairing mode.
4. Connect the monitor: The Bike or Tread will search for available devices and should find the Peloton heart rate band. Select the heart rate band and follow the prompts to complete the pairing process.
5. Confirm the connection: Once the pairing is complete, the LED light on the monitor should stop flashing and stay solid, indicating a successful connection. You can now start using the heart rate band during your workouts.

Note: Make sure the heart rate band is within close proximity to the Bike or Tread during the pairing process. If you experience any issues, try restarting the pairing process.

The new Peloton heart rate band will also work with any third-party applications that support standard Bluetooth heart rate monitor profiles.

It does not have ANT+ like the older heart rate monitor.

I got the newer heart rate band when I switched out my Tread+ for the Tread and got an accessories package.

It is so much easier to use than the older heart rate monitor.

I gave up on the old one shortly after I wrote this original post, and moved to using my Apple Watch as my heart rate monitor.

Now that I have received the newer Peloton heart rate band, I am using it again instead of my Apple Watch and I love it.

I believe it's worth the price, but if you can get it as part of an accessories bundle when purchasing a Bike or Tread, even better!

The Peloton new Heart Rate Band retails for $90 and you can find it on Amazon, as well as Peloton's website.

If you are really looking for the old Peloton chest strap heart rate monitor, it is available on Peloton's website for $34.

Peloton Heart Rate Monitor

I got my first Peloton bike in early 2017 and back then the Peloton heart rate chest strap monitor was the best way for me to monitor my heart rate.

The original Peloton heart rate monitor can lose connection sometimes. Back when it was my main monitor, I had to troubleshoot it and call support a few times.

If you are trying to get the original Peloton heart rate monitor connected, read on below.

Peloton uses ANT+ or bluetooth to connect heart rate monitors

A little more about ANT+  

ANT+ is a wireless protocol for monitoring sensor data such as a person's heart rate or a car's tire pressure. ANT+ is designed and maintained by the ANT+ Alliance which is owned by Garmin. It is based on the ANT protocol.

How to use the Peloton heart rate monitor

Make sure you have the heart rate monitor positioned on your body and ready to go.

There is a heart rate monitor connection on the bike.

It is found by joining a class, or by tapping on the time in the top right corner of the touchscreen and choosing "heart rate monitor".

Troubleshooting a Peloton heart rate monitor that stops working

• First check the bluetooth connection to your bike. Even though the Peloton heart rate monitor uses ANT+ to display your heart rate, it still needs to be connected by bluetooth as well.

• This was not intuitive to me and ended up being my problem. Even though they were connected originally, I had an update run and they then became disconnected. So, try connecting bluetooth again as this seems to be the most common issue.

• If your bluetooth connection is still showing but your heart rate monitor is not working, I would still try disconnecting and connecting again to completely rule it out.

• The next obvious item to check is the battery. I replaced my batteries while troubleshooting but they did not end up being my issue. Still, they run out at some point.

• To save battery life unsnap the plastic piece from the band when not riding. When the battery is starting to run out I notice extremely inaccurate heart rate information on the bike so this will give you some idea when it's about to happen.

• The next item to check is the connection on your chest. Knowing how to wear the Peloton heart rate monitor is key. I found as a woman right under my chest was best. Wet the connection pads, this is important, or it won't work. Adjust the monitor around on you till you see it show up connected. The less it moves during a ride the better so I make mine pretty snug.

These are the most common issues I see come up with the Peloton heart rate monitor. If it's still not working for you then it may be faulty and you can call Peloton support. They were ready to send me a new one if I could not get mine working.

Peloton heart rate monitor battery

If you need to check the batteries or replace the battery you can remove it from the back of the heart rate monitor.

The Peloton heart rate monitor uses a 3V Lithium batteries number CR2032.

How to turn the Peloton heart rate monitor on or off

The monitor does not actually turn on and off, but when connected to the strap it is using the battery.

Peloton recommends removing the monitor from the strap when not in use to preserve the battery.

Alternatives to the Peloton Heart Rate Monitor

If you decide you are done with chest straps and would rather have an arm band this one from Schosche has rave reviews and does work with the Peloton bike.

It seems to be one of the most popular heart rate monitors to use with the bike according to the many Peloton groups where I participate.

Wahoo TICKR X Heart Rate Monitor with Memory, Bluetooth/ANT+ 

This is another popular alternative to the peloton monitor.

My husband has this one for his outdoor cycle and also uses it with the Peloton and loves it.

I have heard Garmin heart rate monitors also work well with the Peloton Bike.

Apple Watch now pairs with the Peloton bike

I will write a new post on how to pair them but it is really easy.

This is what I use now since I always wear my Apple watch anyway.

I also spend a ton of time in the Peloton Facebook and Reddit groups. And, I am familiar with all the common questions when it comes to Peloton.

A very common question I have seen is what is the Peloton weight limit on the bike?

According to Peloton the weight limit for the bike is 297 lbs.

And when it comes to height the bike fits riders between 4' 11" and 6' 5".

Is there an age limit?

While I have seen plenty of people let their kids use the bike, the official recommendation from Peloton is 14 years old.

What about a weight limit for the Tread?

Here is the official word from Peloton:

The Peloton Tread is built and tested only for users between 4'11'' and 6'4'' in height, and between 105 and 300 lbs (48 - 136 kg) in weight.

Do I really have to follow the weight limit on the bike?

I am going to go ahead and tell you I have seen many people post that they have used the bike at higher weights and heights.

Do I personally know for sure that this is safe, and will not void the warranty? No, I do not.

If you are researching this purchase I suggest joining some of the Peloton Facebook groups, or checking on Reddit and asking around for others experiences.

Over the years I have seen this question come up many times, and people who are over the weight limit have chosen to go ahead and get the bike.

Is Peloton good for losing weight?

Yes, cycling can be low impact and is a great way to get started exercising when trying to lose weight and add cardio into your routine. I have lost close to 40 pounds since I originally got my bike.

What if I am over the weight limit for Peloton?

What to do if you are over the 297 pound weight limit but have your heart set on the Peloton experience?

If you would rather not risk buying the bike while over the weight limit, the Peloton app is a great option for working out and you do not need the bike to use it at all.

If you have access to a gym you can use any stationary bike with the app and access the Peloton content.

Or buy another brand with a higher weight limit and use the Peloton app.

The app also has strength, pilates, barre, yoga, cardio, running, walking and other types of exercise that does not require any equipment at all.

What is the Peloton bike weight?

Maybe you are not concerned with bike weight limit and only want to know how much does it weigh?

Well in that case the Peloton bike weighs 135 pounds. It is too heavy to pick up and move on your own but it does have wheels on the front which allows you to roll it if needed.

It is still much easier to move with two people helping rather than one.

Conclusion

The Peloton bike weight limit is 297 pounds or approximately 300 pounds. The Peloton Tread weight limit is also 300 pounds.

If you are over this weight limit you can always use the Peloton app with another piece of exercise equipment in the meantime.

There are a few things that need to happen before you get started. I am going to describe the process here. I am on my second bike since I upgraded from a regular bike to the bike plus, and I also have a Peloton Tread.

Therefore, I feel pretty familiar with the delivery and setup experience.

Read on for more information.

Moving the Peloton Bike

Typically the delivery team will move the bike into the space you designate, but if you do need to move it there are wheels on the front so you can roll it.

The bike is over 100 pounds so Peloton recommends having two adults move it.

Attaching the touchscreen

The screen can be removed and reattached by unplugging the cable and unscrewing it. I have done this when I moved and it is easy to do.

Turning the Peloton bike on

This is the easy part! There is a plug and power jack that comes with your bike. Plug the power jack and plug into the bike, and then into the wall.

Once the bike is plugged in simply press the button on the back of the touchscreen to turn the bike on.

Connect to WiFi, activate your Peloton account, and create your leaderboard name

Once your touchscreen is on you can connect to your Wifi and activate your account.

Sometimes the delivery team sticks around to help with this part. If you have not setup yet and you want help ask them to stay and help.

If they have left and you are doing this after the fact don't worry it's easy.

Activating your subscription will use the email you used at purchase or there may be an activation key on the screen. Once you get past this step you can create your leaderboard name.

This is the name you use on the bike to follow people and be found by friends.

Get started cycling

Once you are done with these steps you are ready to go! This should not take more than a couple of minutes.

Super easy right? Peloton has tons of beginner content and programs to check out, so now the fun part of figuring out where to get started begins.

I can find it overwhelming when starting something new, so I suggest trying one of the beginner programs such as You Can Ride, found under Programs.

Of course you can just hop on and do any ride you like you but the intro programs can be helpful if you like structure.

Do I need to turn off the Peloton bike overnight?

This is a common question related to the bike. It is not recommended to turn your bike off every night.

Usually I do not turn my bike off at all.

How to turn off Peloton screen?

The power button on the back of the touchscreen can be used to put the bike in "sleep mode".

I do press this sometimes to quiet the screen when I am done working out.

Does the Peloton screen turn off automatically?

Yes, If you do nothing the screen will go into sleep mode on its own after a short amount of time.

If you absolutely want to turn the bike off you will need to unplug it. The benefit to turning it off would be if you are worried about the energy it is using.

Sometimes for troubleshooting an issue turning it off and on can help too.

In general I leave my bike on because this way it is easy to start up quickly, and it gets all updates while I am away from it.

Peloton won't turn on

If you are having trouble getting the bike to turn on my first recommendation is to check all of your connections and plugs.

This is always the most common issue.

If the Peloton screen won't turn on, again I would check the cable coming from the screen to the bike, and make sure the connection is secure.

Becoming a mom is part of what led to me finding Peloton, and discovering the first exercise I have stuck with in my adult life.

I have three kids. During all of my pregnancies and the years between them, I did not participate consistently in any kind of exercise beyond walking a lot.

I had major symphysis pubis dysfunction (SPD) during my third pregnancy. The pain lingered after she was born but after a couple of months I tried to start exercising again and injured myself and ended up in the emergency room unable to walk.

Turns out I had a tilted pelvis and major issues after having three babies pretty much back to back. My  pelvic floor and core were shot and needed a lot of time to repair. 

After a couple of months of rest I received physical therapy. Eventually I asked my physical therapist what kind of exercise would be good for someone with my issues. She said cycling, and the Peloton was the first thing to pop in my head. This was almost four years ago so Peloton wasn't quite as big as it is now, but I was using my injury as an excuse to go for it.

I am now almost four years into my Peloton journey and there is no sign of quitting anywhere on the horizon. Peloton has consistently kept me hooked with not only cycling, but tons of other content as well.

I can get all my fitness goals met through their app alone. I recently decided to upgrade my bike as well. After almost four years of using my original bike I am upgrading to the new bike+.

Did Peloton help me lose the postpartum weight?

Absolutely! Like many new moms I wanted to lose the weight ASAP. Trying to get back in shape is what led me to getting injured in the first place.

We really need to be patient with our postpartum bodies but I know first hand patience is hard.

I lost between 20 - 30 pounds the year after my third baby was born once I started using the Peloton bike consistently. Before the bike I had lost about 10 or so (pretty much just birthing the baby) hence the 20 - 30, some of that was before the bike.

While I hear over and over that you can't out exercise your diet, and eating well is key, I was able to lose a lot that first year without much dieting. I was breastfeeding as well.

Once I lost the initial weight it did kind of stop, but Peloton has me in better shape then I was before kids.

Here are the reasons Peloton is great for postpartum moms:

Cycling is easy on our postpartum bodies. This was number one for me. My recovery after my third baby was slow. I had never taken a spin class or ridden a bike since childhood.

Cycling allowed me to get stronger than I was before having kids, and do it safely. The additional classes and content are a major bonus. I had no idea all the content and community I was about to receive when I chose Peloton for this reason.

And of course having a workout you love will lead to that postpartum weight loss.

Peloton is a convenient workout in your home. Even before a pandemic and gyms being closed, it is hard to get away and take time for yourself as a mom.

When I became a mom for the first time any self care was pretty much shelved. If only I knew about Peloton then. Having a way to squeeze in workouts between naps and childcare is amazing. It takes much less time than driving to a gym, finding child care, etc.

Peloton instructors are certified in prenatal and postnatal exercise. A few of the instructors at Peloton hold this certification. There are core programs to specifically deal with diastasis recti.

There is also prenatal and postnatal yoga classes. One of my favorite Peloton instructors, Robin Arzon is currently pregnant and plans to share her entire pregnancy while teaching classes. I think this is huge for new moms and moms to be. Anyone with a Peloton already knows how amazing Robin is as an instructor but this will add a new dimension to her teachings. She is also certified in prenatal and postnatal fitness.

The Peloton community. When I bought my bike I had no idea I was gaining a community. I joined the original Peloton member Facebook page and while it is supportive and offers lots of good advice, there are many Peloton groups specifically for moms.

There is an official Peloton moms group, a breastfeeding Peloton moms group, a working moms group, and many other spin off mom groups I have joined as well.

When I became a mom for the first time support from mom groups is what got me through many of those early lonely days. Any mom knows support from these groups continues to be an essential part of parenthood. The Peloton moms group is one of my favorite I have ever joined.

Stress and anxiety relief. I have dealt with postpartum anxiety after the birth of my second and third baby. Peloton is such a great anxiety buster. It will not cure everything, but it's a huge help for managing these symptoms of new motherhood.

The content. I already mentioned how hard it is to find time to exercise as a new mom. Cycling was the major draw for me to Peloton. But Peloton offers way more than cycling, they now have two treadmill models if running is more your thing.

There is also strength training, dance cardio, resistance band strength training, boot camp classes for the bike and treadmill, yoga, barre classes, outdoor classes - you listen while walking or running, stretching and foam rolling, and meditations.

They even started offering family content last spring when we were all stuck in our homes. I used them as PE for my kids while doing distance learning.

Training plans. Have you ever wanted to start exercising but had no idea how to start, what to do first, and what order or amount of workouts to do to get results? That's me all the time. If left alone I have no idea what to do and probably end up doing nothing as a result.

This is never an issue with Peloton. They have many training plans available on their app. There are also challenges and other fun ways to keep yourself accountable.

Conclusion

Being a mom is hard, all encompassing and demanding. Like many mothers I felt I lost a little bit of myself when I became a parent.

Caring for others and putting yourself last can take a toll on our psyche, our self confidence, and more. Having something for yourself that eases stress, gives you some fun time away from the family, and adds to your health is priceless.

While losing some of the postpartum weight was great I do not work out anymore to lose weight. I do it to have stress relief for myself, and be healthy for my family. I also gained a ton of friends and my few trips to NYC to ride at the Peloton studio (before pandemic) were amazing girl trips I took for myself with my best friend.

Peloton has become much more than a stationary bike in my house, it has become a hobby and part of my life. This gave me back some of my pre-parent self and has helped my self esteem tremendously. 

For that reason I absolutely recommend Peloton to postpartum moms. I use the bike so that is where my personal experience lies but I know a lot of moms love the treadmill too.

I bought the bike after an injury forced me to abandon the kind of exercise I was doing. But, I will be honest, when I saw the price tag I balked...at first.

It's not cheap at all. For me it was worth it though. More than worth it. I can say confidently since buying my bike I am in better shape than I was before I had three children in less than four years.

Health and fitness are worth it to me. I have not done any kind of exercise as an adult which I found as motivating, and was consistent with, to see these kinds of results.

Is the Peloton worth it?

The appeal of the Peloton bike for me was the classes. The Peloton has 21" screen which allows you to live stream classes and access thousands of on demand classes. I love classes.

Truth - I probably would not hop on a spin bike sitting in my house without the fun and motivation of group classes. But, I also love group classes in person.

So, is it worth it when the classes are on a screen and you are not actually at the studio? For me, yes. The Peloton community is unique in the fitness world. We make friends, we participate in a Facebook group and sub groups, we form tribes.

I believe this makes it even more social than actually showing up in a studio and this is extremely motivating.

After three years of having my bike I can also say I am not bored of it yet at all, and I have made many in real life friends through the bike.

The Peloton app and membership also give you access to all of the strength, yoga, running, mediation and classes they offer. So not only are you paying to cycle each month but getting tons of other content. This makes it more than worth it for me.

How does the cost compare?

An average gym cost is anywhere between $40 and $50 a month or more and according to this article up to $800 a year including initiation fee.

I know in the area I live, it is much more though.

An average spin class cost can be between $15-$25 per class and Soul Cycle classes can cost up to $39 per class.

Factor in additional costs of gas to and from, and time loss spent commuting to and from the location where you are exercising.

Of course we can go outside and exercise too. I used to believe it was a waste to spend money on gyms and classes when I could just go outside and jog or walk. But, yeah that did not get me in shape like this and when bad weather hits it gets harder.

Now that I have three children my time is money, and there is nothing like being able to hop on a high energy spin class and be done with an amazing workout within an hour.

Here is the Peloton cost breakdown:

Bike $1995.

Monthly class subscription $39 a month.

$250 Delivery fee.

Accessories are optional but you will need shoes, a mat, and probably want additional items so factor about $200.

They do have sales on accessories around black Friday and throughout the holidays so keep this in mind if you can wait.

If you take an average of 200 classes a year (and this is conservative, many riders take a lot more) the cost for your first year averages about $15 a class.

And of course you own this bike now so the cost goes down each year of ownership. I see myself using my bike for years.

Yes it's worth it! I am biased, I love my bike, but I was looking for this same information back when I bought my bike and now Peloton has changed my life.

That's not an exaggeration. After three babies in less than four years I was desperate to get back in shape and lose some baby weight. I still have a ways to go but this has been a huge help.

Plus, it's tons of fun and I have made many new Peloton friends.

I have now had it for over three years and I am still as enthused as when I originally wrote this.

The Peloton is the only exercise I have stuck with this long in my life. I have lost over 30 postpartum pounds and workout every day.

What can I say about the Peloton cycle? Well, I never knew a piece of exercise equipment could have such an effect on my life. There are many reviews of Peloton to be found but here is a review from a true user.

Having three babies back-to-back in less than five years has taken a toll on my body. My third baby was born a year ago, and I knew after a few weeks postpartum I needed to start working out and attempt to get in shape.

I decided to try a program which involves a lot of crazy movement, jumping up and down, and generally doing things which aren't wise while still recovering from birth. I didn't know though, I thought I was fine but apparently I was not quite healed and injured myself badly .

I was couch bound from about 12 weeks postpartum for more than a month. I was not back to myself or doing much movement for closer to three months. I did receive physical therapy, and when I asked the PT what kind of exercise I could do going forward she recommended biking or walking only. Boring. Or so I thought.

As I researched a bike for exercising, I remembered the Peloton commercials, and while it looked cool it never crossed my mind to purchase it. Well now I gave it another look. The appeal of the Peloton over other bikes was the option of 12 or more live classes a day, thousands of on demand classes, and a live leaderboard where I can compete against other riders or myself.

I need the motivation of a group environment even if I am alone in my home. I used to love gym classes but there was no way a gym was happening with three kids under five. There was no way a stationary recumbent bike was going to motivate me either.

I went to the Tyson's Corner Peloton store to check it out and was sold. I have never taken a spin class in my life but I was desperate to find something fun and motivating I could do while recovering from injury.

Now the Peloton is expensive, but I received a generous Christmas gift which helped lessen the cost. The bike is $1995 and then there are mandatory add ons such as delivery and the monthly subscription cost of $39 a month. I paid this all up front so I did not have to think about it all year. There is also financing available which can help.

In addition to the bike cost there are accessories such as shoes, a heart rate monitor, mat, weights and so on. You can buy these elsewhere though.

When you think about what a gym membership costs and the various other costs we spend traveling to the gym or taking exercise classes, the cost is not as extensive as it may seem at first. And once you own the bike it's yours forever.

If the cost is truly prohibitive Peloton offers an app with a lower monthly cost that can be used with any bike. I know many users who started with the app and upgraded to the Peloton bike later on.

The app is great option if you would like to try the Peloton classes before you buy the bike as well.

After my purchase was complete I was told about an official Peloton rider Facebook page. Now I bought this bike because I knew I needed motivation from the classes and social aspect of taking classes with people while still being in my home. I did not expect what I found in the Facebook group. A group over 100k plus riders all cheering each other on, helping newbies like myself, forming tribes to ride together, and subgroups for everything you can think of.

Friends rallying behind each other for any need or cause. And, the instructors.. wow, they participate as much as the riders, and each instructor is incredible and accessible in their own right.

As a bike I cannot tell you for sure if Peloton is the best physical indoor cycling bike on the market. I can tell you it is right up there with the best. I did my research and this bike is a beautiful machine and it does what it is supposed to. It has a small footprint and could fit in even the smallest of spaces. The software and classes are topnotch and I have had no technical issues.

The classes run on a 21" touchscreen Android tablet. I have never had streaming issues and the Peloton team has always been available quickly if I have a question (in my case it was about syncing my heart rate monitor). I am able to connect a heart rate monitor, bluetooth speakers, or headphones and choose one of thousands of on demand or live classes to ride whenever I feel like.

Technical updates are frequent and the Peloton team reaches out and listens to users for feedback on software features. The app is also easy to use, and both the app and tablet have lots of ride data for us geeks to obsesses over. I am also able to sync my rides to FitBit, Strava, and most recently my Apple Watch. It's data overload actually but I love it.

To sum up my Peloton cycle review

The Peloton bike is a beautiful piece of exercise equipment especially good for someone like me recovering from injury, and needing a low impact but calorie torching workout at home.

The software and tablet is more than technically capable and does not have any issues which might drag the experience down.

Amazing instructors who are involved in the community, live classes, thousands of on demand classes, and all kinds of different rides. There is something for everyone here.

An encouraging community of like-minded riders supporting each other and forming friendships. We come from many backgrounds but we all bound over the love of our bike and Peloton experience. After two plus years with the bike I have made some great new friends.

Workout wise the bike is what you make of it. Of course if you never ride or work up a sweat you may not get results. For me and every user I have spoken to this bike has been an inspiration.

I have lost about 20 postpartum pounds and I am close to my pre-baby weight. I have no doubt if I continue this journey I will reach all of my goals. Riding this bike is fun, and addictive. This is the first workout I have done as an adult that I honestly love and has not felt like a chore.

My enthusiasm for this bike has led my husband and I into outdoor cycling and road bikes as well. It has been a true lifestyle change. We also have friends who have seen our love for this bike and bought their own Peloton.

They now have strength training of all types, yoga, meditations, boot camp type classes, running and walking, and this is all included with your membership subscription. I use all of these classes now daily in addition to cycling.
